Help us build back Caribbean communities devastated after Hurricane Beryl

Our purpose is to provide an immediate and sustained response to natural disasters in the Caribbean through delivering aid, leading on the rebuild effort and working in partnership with the local government and the international community to tackle climate change.

Inside Hurricane Beryl: What happened

Hurricane Beryl swept through the Caribbean having a profound impact on the region. As it made landfall, Beryl brought with it torrential rains, fierce winds, and widespread flooding, causing significant damage to infrastructure and homes. The agricultural sector has suffered heavily, with crops destroyed and livestock lost, leading to food shortages and economic strain.

Communities have been displaced with residents seeking temporary shelter in churches and schools.  Many are still unable to return to their homes and need assistance to rebuild their homes completely.

Building back better

In the immediate wake of Hurricane Beryl, Windward Aid started mobilising volunteers to procure and ship supplies to the hardest hit islands of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. We have provided essential relief supplies, including generators, building materials and labour, chainsaws, sanitation products and water.

Our efforts have helped rebuild homes and critical infrastructure, ensuring that affected areas can recover more quickly. Additionally, Windward Aid has worked closely with local government and Caritas Grenada to offer long term support, focusing on sustainable development and restoration of the agricultural sector.

“After Beryl, we were left without electricity and the house was badly damaged by the storm. My mother is an elderly woman and has difficulty getting around without help. I cannot thank you all enough for helping to rebuild our home and providing us with a generator.”

Theresa

Carriacou resident

“This grant has been a lifeline for my family. After losing our home and most of our belongings, we didn’t know how we would rebuild. Thanks to the support we received, we now have hope and the means to start over. We are incredibly grateful for this assistance.”

Francis

Carriacou resident

“After Hurricane Beryl devastated our Soursop farm, we felt lost and hopeless. But the support we received from Windward Aid was a beacon of hope. Thanks to their generosity, we were able to rebuild our lives and find strength in each other.”

Bernadette

Soursop farmer

“Hurricane Beryl wiped out all our seamoss crops this year. Without Windward Aid’s help I wouldn’t be able to buy back my tools, replant my crops and continue to support my family.”
