Windward Aid has launched an urgent humanitarian response to support communities across Jamaica following the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa, which made landfall on 28 October 2025, bringing widespread damage to homes, infrastructure, and essential services.
Founded in response to Hurricane Beryl (July 2024), Windward Aid was born out of the urgent need to support affected communities across Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique. Built from the ground up during that crisis, the organisation continues to operate with the same mission: to deliver rapid, transparent, community-centred relief wherever it is needed in the Caribbean.
Drawing on extensive experience from its founding efforts during Hurricane Beryl, where Windward Aid first established its operational model, the organisation has activated a threepronged emergency support plan designed to deliver immediate assistance and sustained recovery for affected families.
Windward Aid has procured and is in the midst of loading two containers in Miami with a wide range of essential relief items, including household goods, emergency equipment, hygiene supplies, children’s items, and water. These shipments constitute Stage One of the charity’s Jamaica response and represent tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of goods specifically sourced to reach the most vulnerable communities.
In partnership with supporters across the United Kingdom, Windward Aid is organising a coordinated donation drive to gather additional high‑priority items for Stage Two of the response. This drive will enable individuals, families, and organisations to directly contribute goods that will be shipped to Jamaica at Windward Aid’s expense, ensuring donations reach those who most need them.
Windward Aid is working closely with local Jamaican communities and the Maroon leader Chief Currie, community representatives, and official partners to ensure transparent, equitable, and well‑coordinated distribution of aid. The charity is working directly to help those within Maroon territories, while applying proven distribution frameworks refined during previous Caribbean disaster responses. These efforts are being adapted thoughtfully to Jamaica’s specific needs and the cultural and historical significance of Maroon communities.
Windward Aid’s operational approach is grounded in the systems, partnerships, and logistical expertise refined during the charity’s large‑scale response in Grenada after Hurricane Beryl. That effort delivered:
This established track record forms the foundation for a swift, transparent, community‑centred response to Hurricane Melissa.
Colin Moses, Founder & CEO of Windward Aid, has stated:
“Jamaica is family to us in the Caribbean. When one island hurts, we all feel it. Windward Aid is committed to standing with Jamaica through the immediate crisis and the long road of recovery that follows. Our focus is simple: get help quickly, get it to the right people, and do it with transparency.”
